József Fekete visited SUITS from March 10th, 2014 to March 26, 2014 as a Visiting Doctoral Researcher:

József Fekete is a  first year PhD student at the Doctoral School of Earth Sciences of the University of Debrecen. In the framework of the Human Geography – Regional and Urban Development Doctoral Program. He examines the socio-economic processes in the transforming Central and Southeastern Europe.  Currently he focuses on the rise of Turkey and the Muslim communities and minorities living in the Balkan states. His PhD project is supervised by Dr. Zsolt Radics, senior lecturer of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Development. As a full-time PhD student, he assists the Department on a daily basis; besides his teaching duties he provides the writing of tenders and he does translational tasks among others. 

Since 15 January 2014, he has been a Lykeon Scholarship Holder at the South-East European Foundation and Research Institute in Budapest, Hungary. He participates there in research projects, translational tasks, in the organizing of conferences and scientific workshops. He works on the establishment of a network of universities between the Southeast European region, too.

He holds a MSc. degree in Geography with the following specialization: Regional and Urban Development, which he received with Academic Honour. The title of his thesis was “Turkey in Transition – The New Middle Power?”  (in Hungarian: „A változó Törökország – Az új középhatalom?”)

On 18 April 2013, he won first prize at the XXXI. Hungarian National Scientific Students' Associations Conference, in the Division of Economic Geography. The title of his paper was “Where is Turkey heading to? – The economy of Turkey in the period of consolidation and recovery” (in Hungarian: “Merre tart Törökország? - Törökország gazdasága a kilábalás időszakában”)

Between 1 March 2013 and 31 December 2013, he was a holder of the “Lóránd Eötvös scholarship in the convergence regions”. The subsidizers were the European Union and the State of Hungary, co-financed by the European Social Fund in the framework of TÁMOP-4.2.4.A/ 2-11/1-2012-0001 ‘National Excellence Program’.

Between 18 February and 29 June, he participated in the Talent Support Program of the University of Debrecen.

Between 1 September 2011 and 21 June 2013, he studied “Network Specialization”, which was educated by University of Debrecen, Faculty of Informatics and IT Services Hungary Ltd.

Since 2011, he has been studying Business Administration and Management at the Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary. After his state examination, he is planning to continue his studies at a Master level from January 2015. He has a high level (C1) English language exam; besides that he speaks German (intermediate level) and Swedish (beginner level).
