“Our new research institute will be unique within the University in its focus on one country - but Turkey plays a key role for Europe as a bridge between East and West. Also, Sweden and Turkey have had a long historical relationship. A number of strategic partners, including companies and government bodies in both Sweden and Turkey, have wanted to contribute to our activities - that shows the importance of our research to the surrounding world,” says Astrid Söderbergh Widding, Vice-Chancellor/President of Stockholm University.

“We want our research to contribute to a broader understanding of Turkey and Turkish affairs among researchers and opinion makers as well as business leaders and the public in Scandinavia. But we also hope to reach out to Europe and the rest of the world,” says Paul T Levin, Director of the Institute.
